Abstract
Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects mental health, cognition and nutrition. Objectives: (1) Determine the prevalence of depression, cognition impairment and nutrition in patients with CKD stage 3-5. (2) Explore the relationship between depression and cognitive disorders, nutritional disorders, and some characteristics in patients with CKD stage 3-5. Methodology: cross-sectional description on 433 patients with chronic kidney disease stage 3-5. Corresponding tools for assessing screening for depression, cognitive decline, and nutritional status are Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), and the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA). Results: (1) The rate of depression, cognition impairment and malnutrition risk was 40.9%, 20.3%; 50.1% respectively. (2) Patients with CKD who were at risk of malnutrition and cognitive disorders were more likely to suffer from depression than patients with normal nutritional status and cognitive status. Conclusion: Depression is quite common in patients with chronic kidney disease stage 3 - 5, screening is needed in these patients. There is a positive relationship between depression and the risk of malnutrition, the level of cognitive dysfunction in patients with CKD stage 3 - 5.| Published | 2022-11-15 | |
