Abstract

Long-term preservation of transplanted kidney function is a primary goal for both nephrologists and kidney recipients. Because after transplantation, both the patient and the transplanted kidney can face many risks leading to complications and potential damage, which may result in the loss of the transplanted kidney. To best achieve this goal, a thorough assessment of transplanted kidney function and close monitoring of the patient’s health are essential. Accurate diagnosis of the functional status of a transplanted kidney requires a combination of clinical, paraclinical, systemic, and local approaches to ensure timely and precise results. The 17th Banff Conference in Paris in 2024 (Banff 2024) provided updated information and added many new points in the diagnosis and development of methods for assessing kidney transplant function, aiming to increase accuracy for physicians. This overview provides basic comprehensive information of methods for assessing transplanted kidney function and updates inportant news on the histopathological diagnosis of transplanted kidney injury according to Banff 2024.
