Abstract

Background: Multiple primary colorectal cancer is defined as the presence of more than one malignant primary tumor in colorectum, which is an uncommon clinical scenario which could pose a challenge in treatment and prognosis. We report the first case of multiple primary colorectal cancer documented and treated successfully in our facility with triple adenocarcinoma belonging to three different histologic subtypes. Case presentation: A 73-year-old woman presented with prolonged abdominal pain and malaise. Endoscopic examination showed three tumors in ascending and transverse colons. Extended right hemicolectomy was performed. Post-surgical pathological result revealed triple primary colon carcinoma with different histologic subtypes - undifferentiated carcinoma, mucinous adenocarcinoma and adenocarcinoma not otherwise specified. Fifteen months post-surgery, no locoregional recurrence was found. Conclusion: Multiple primary colorectal cancers exhibit complicated clinical and pathohistological presentations. Increased awareness and further in-depth research on this entity are essential.
