Abstract
Background: Port-a-cath on cancer patients for the purpose of chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, intravenous drug infusion and blood collection for testing…; placing a port-a-cath not only facilitates treatment, but also facilitates patient care.This study was conducted to investigate the clinical and subclinical characteristics of the group of cancer patients who received the port-a-cath and evaluate the results of the subcutaneous intravenous infusion chamber placement. Methods: We conducted a prospective descriptive study on 31 cancer patients with port-a-cath who met the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria at the Department of Oncology, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from 01/2020 to 08/2023. Results: Median age was 51 ± 16.4 (14-80), with 32.3% breast cancer; digestive cancer 19.4%; malignant lymphoma 12.9%; ovarian cancer 12.9%, lung cancer 9.7% and other cancer 12.9%. The majority of cancer patients are stage IV (71%). Common indications are: chemotherapy 87.1%; parenteral nutrition 3.2%. The majority of patients used port-a-cath 1 day after surgery (64.5%) and the common complication was blockage of the port-a-cath (16.1%); There is a relationship between the rate of blockage and skinny patient (p=0.023).
