Abstract

Objective: To find out the rate of women participating in breast cancer screening trial in Thua Thien Hue province, and the results of breast ultrasound using BI-RADS classification. Materials and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 3183 women aged 30 and above in the community. We used a questionnaire with general information of age and place of living, and breast ultrasound data. Results: The majority of women (75.1%) had never undergone a breast examination. Percentage of women participating in the breast screening trial in the community was 3183/4900 (65%). Proportion of women attending the examination at the hospital was 34/51 (66,7%). There were 735/3183 (23.1%) women with breast lesions on ultrasound, with 6.9% of these classified as BI-RADS 4-5. Among these high risk cases, 2 women were diagnosed with breast cancer. Conclusion: The rate of women participating in breast cancer screening in the community remains low. Therefore, it is necessary to further promote awareness raising and application of breast cancer screening by ultrasound in the community.
