Abstract
Background: Meniscal tear is a common knee injury, mainly affec.ng the working-age popula.on, and may lead to knee osteoarthri.s if le. untreated. Arthroscopic knee surgery, developed since the early 20th century, is a minimally invasive technique for trea.ng knee injuries. Arthroscopic meniscal repair, par.cularly the outside-in technique, is widely adopted due to its simplicity, effec.veness, and costefficiency.
Method: Study of 40 patients with simple meniscus lesions and meniscus lesions with anterior cruciate ligament lesions who underwent laparoscopic suturing of meniscus by external-in technique at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from April 2023 to September 2024.
Results: 40 cases of knee injury with meniscus tear with a follow-up period of 6 months, patients were evaluated before surgery, 1 month after surgery, 3 months and 6 months. Men accounted for 57.5% of the total number of patients in the study, while women accounted for 42.5%. The mean age of the patients was 32.51 ± 1.62 years. The most common causes of meniscus tear are sports accidents (40.0%), domestic accidents (32.5%), and traffic accidents (27.5%). The Lysholm, Tapper, and Hoover scales, along with IKDC, all show improvements in knee joint function in the majority of postoperative patients, with recovery results proportional to postoperative time. The majority of patients performed well and very well by the time of follow-up 6 months after surgery.
Conclusion: The technique of suturing the meniscus from the outside to the inside through endoscopy is a highly effective method, and is easily applied clinically. This technique results in good knee rehabilitation, especially when the surgery is performed within the first 3 months after the injury.
