Abstract
Background: Musculoskeletal disorders are an important occupational health problem in dentists. The study aims to determine the prevalence and evaluate the factors related to musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) among Dentists at medical facilities in Hue city.
Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study, using The Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire to assess MSD.
Results: Among 170 surveyed dentists, 81.2% and 33.5% had MSD symptoms in the past 12 months and in the past 7 days, respectively. In the past 12 months, the MSD rate accounted for a high proportion in the neck (63.5%), the shoulder (42.4%), and the lower back (38.2%). There was a correlation between MSD and age, number of working days per week, working in a fixed position for a long time, and working in uncomfortable positions bending/twisting the back/head (p < 0.05). The age group 30 - 44 has a 4.73 times higher risk of developing MSD compared to the group ≥ 45 years old. Working in a fixed position daily and occupying a significant amount of time during the day has a respective 5.974 and 7.15 times higher risk of developing MSD compared to individuals without this position.
Conclusion: The prevalence of MSD in dentists is relatively high, the main affected areas are the neck, shoulders and lower back. The age group 30 - 44 years old in a fixed position for a long time has a high risk of MSD.
