Abstract
Background: Losing teeth greatly affects the health and quality of life of the elderly. Therefore, the restoration of lost teeth for the elderly is very important, it helps to improve their quality of life.
Objectives: To describe the rate of tooth loss and survey the status of lost teeth restoration of the elderly at Huong So and Thuy Bieu wards of Hue city between December 2023 and February 2024.
Subjects and research methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 180 people aged ≥ 60 years in Huong So and Thuy Bieu wards who agreed to participate. Research subjects were interviewed to collect general information and the research team examined and recorded the state of missing teeth and dentures being used.
Results: The rate of tooth loss in the elderly was 88.9%; the elderly had restorations was 26.3%; the rate of proper dental restorations among the elderly who had restorations was 45.2%; the rate of using removable prostheses 50%; the rate of using fixed prostheses 33.3%; the rate of using both removable and fixed prostheses 16.7%.
Conclusion: The rate of dental restoration compared to the rate of tooth loss in the elderly in the survey is quite low, so it is necessary to increase knowledge about the consequences of tooth loss to improve the quality of life of the elderly
